COVID-19 Statement by Club Chairman

Dear Members,
COVID-19 OUTBREAK

We are clearly in un-chartered waters when it comes to the current situation regarding the COVID-19 outbreak throughout the world.

At Putteridge Swimming Club our first priority is the health, safety and welfare of all of our members, their families, our coaches and volunteers. To this end, we have taken onboard all the advice of the UK government and Swim England where this has been forthcoming. We review the position daily and our Committee is in constant contact.

However, given these unprecedented times, no clear direction for swimming clubs has been forthcoming and it is up to us to decide on an operational stategy moving forward. A massive consideration for PSC and all swimming clubs throughout the UK is simply, survival. It seems an inevitable possibility at this time, that all swimming pools will close soon in an effort to fight COVID-19. This will be a hard pill to swallow. Our members no longer able to train and take part in the sport we all love.

We are already planning online remote methods to continue land training, provide dietary information, pool sets for individuals who may have access to private pools, and other positive ways to engage with our members. We are hopeful that we can help you be as ‘ready’ as you can be when we are able to resume normal training again. We hope you can all benefit from this and it helps the club to continue to operate financially.

I am sure you will all agree that Putteridge Swimming Club has evolved into a wonderful club. We are not only Bedfordshire’s highest performing club, we are a family. We have some of the best swimmers and coaches in the country and we will simply will not allow this crisis to change that, without a fight! I hope you can help us on this un-chartered journey.

Today we are bringing in some additional measures. Firstly, we are stopping all training outside of Inspire.

We have asked Active Luton/Inspire to provide assurances to our members that ALL measures are being undertaken by them, to ensure health and safety precautions from the door of Inspire. Their statement is attached for your information and consideration.

Until Inspire closes, we will continue training. From Friday all schools will close. We believe that training can help provide a healthy, physical outlet and escape from spending hours at home. We ask that parents bringing children to Inspire, adhere to government advice and drop off and pick up children from the door of Inspire. I must point out that if you continue training you do so at your own risk. Our insurance covers public liability but does not cover a pandemic crisis.

We will of course keep you advised of any change or update to this position.

Very best wishes to you all.

Stay safe.

From Inspire, Luton Sports Village:

In consultation with Luton Public Health, we’re confirming to customers that we are open for people who are fit and well and wish to look after their health and wellbeing through physical activity. Mindful of the need for social spacing in the current climate we can confirm the following special measures that are now in place.

  • Enhanced cleaning regimes are in place around the building including sanitiser for use by all customers.
  • Swimmers attending club sessions will be spaced out further by utilising additional lanes or extending booking times.
  • All fitness class sizes have been reduced allowing for greater spacing of people and equipment. Customers are required to sanitise hands on entry. Classes finish five minutes early to wipe equipment with alcohol wipes.
  • In the gym cardiovascular equipment is more spaced out by reducing access to machines. Customers required to wipe down equipment before and after use. Gym teams will also conduct continuous wipe downs.

Kind Regards,

Callum Ingledew
