Covid-19 Coronavirus

Government guidance has been updated 13/03/2020 as we move from “containment” to “delay”. The advice does not alter the operation of our Spring LC National Qualifier Meet, but may apply to each of you as individuals. Self-isolation requirements have changed. If they apply to you (i.e. you have a fever or a cough, regardless of travel or contact) then please do NOT attend our meet.

In light of the current outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Swim England East Region has reviewed its current position, and has issued the following statement to share information to ensure all possible precautions are taken:

“Our current events are still going ahead as planned, and the welfare of anyone attending Swim England East Region events is of paramount importance.”

Ahead of our Open Meet, please take note of the latest information from the Government and Public Health England regarding novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Swimmers, coaches and spectators are reminded of the hygiene precautions to help reduce the spread of infection.

Wash your hands regularly and particularly when arriving at Inspire.

Avoid touching your face with dirty hands.

Do NOT attend the meet to watch or swim if you are unwell, have a fever or a cough.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.

Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind participants, coaches, volunteers and spectators of the latest NHS guidance and hygiene precautions that can help reduce the spread of infection.

The Pool Water Treatment and Advisory Group (PWTAG) has been in contact with Public Health England regarding novel coronavirus.  A spokesperson for PWTAG said: “Public health opinion is that it is generally safe to go swimming at this time. Water and the chlorine within swimming pools will help to kill the virus.

However, visitors to swimming pools are reminded to shower before using the pool, to shower on leaving the pool and to follow the necessary hygiene precautions when visiting public places to help reduce the risk of infection.”

We encourage families to find alternatives to watching from the spectator area.

Please follow the latest Government advice relating to the spread of Covid-19 at all times. Check here

Swim England expect Swim England members to comply with the latest Government and NHS guidance.
