The club has a squad structure as follows. Mini Squad This squad is for the younger members of the club and is used as an introduction to swimming in a competitive environment. Entry to the squad is by trial and swimmers need to be able to swim 50M on their front and 50M on their back to be considered. The minis train either one or two sessions per week and the emphasis is on stroke technique with some water fitness work being done too. Swimmers learn the basics of training and competing and will be considered to represent the club in galas at the appropriate stage of their development. All swimmers in this squad are expected to take part in our Club Championship galas which are held four times a year. Development Squad Swimmers in this squad have progressed to swimming more sessions and are looking to build on the skills learned in the mini squad. Stroke technique is still a focus here but mixed with swimming greater distances in each training session in order to build their water fitness. Squad members are considered for galas in leagues and are encouraged to enter certain open competitions. Intermediate Squad This squad are pushing hard to achieve county qualifying. All swimmers are expected to swim for the club if selected for galas and to enter open competitions to improve their competition experience. A greater level of commitment is required than the development squad. Training still looks to improve stroke technique with pool time being a mixture of endurance and sprint work. Swimmers in this squad know the basics of training such as pace clock work, familiarity with drills and a basic understanding of sports nutrition. To assist in their sporting development, swimmers have goal setting targets which are discussed and agreed with the coaches. Land training is also open to the intermediate squad. Performance Squad Swimmers are invited to join the performance squad by the head coach. This is the clubs top squad competing in leagues and opens including county and regional competitions. Swimmers are expected to have a good understanding of training techniques and be willing to work hard at all times to achieve their maximum potential. Swimmers are involved in an intense training programme in the pool and take part in land training session along with the other squads. Minimum requirement to stay in the squad is hold county qualifying times for various strokes and distances and swimmers should be close to or hold regional qualifying times. |
