PUTTERIDGE PIRANHAS SWIMMING CLUB 

Code of Conduct Agreement

Everyone associated with the Club from the Swimmers, the Coaches, the Officials and the Committee hope that all participants enjoy their time whilst a Member of Putteridge Piranhas Swimming Club.  To help towards achieving our aim the Club requires all Members and Parents to sign up to and follow our code of conduct. Our code of conduct covers four areas, first looking at the general conduct that applies to all, then specific sections that covers what is expected of the Swimmer, the Coach, and finally the Parent, Guardian or Carer. 

General to all:

*    Comply with the codes, rules and laws within the guidelines set out by the Club, ASA or the sport.*    Reflect good behaviour and that your personal conduct is of a high standard and a credit to the Club and our Sport & Yourself.*    Language in public or relevant group situations must always be appropriate and socially acceptable.*    Respect your fellow Swimmers and other people’s feelings and their right to swim, Coach & organise*    Behave without discrimination.*    Encourage all Swimmers to obey the spirit of the rules and laws both in and out of the pool and to observe the authority and the decisions of all Officials.*    Treat other Competitors and Teams with respect, in both victory and defeat.*    Take care of other Swimmer’s belongings and Club / swimming pool centre equipment as if your own.*    Read the Club notice board or Club web site www.putteridgesc.co.uk regularly, a personal login can be obtained to view the secure areas on the Club website by e-mailing your request to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it *    Ensure that if asked to complete registration, entry or other Club administration forms, that these are returned in good time and completed correctly with full payment.*    Make sure that if you are asked to wear Club uniform that it is clean, available, worn in a manner that positively reflects the Club in a good light.*    If you notice any hazards that could cause injury during the session then inform a Coach or a Staff member of the facility immediately.*    Report any instances of bullying to the Senior Coach, Welfare Officer, Club Chairman immediately or Assistant Senior Coach immediately.*    Inform the Club or Coach of all medication being taken.*    If you have any cause for concern, inform the Senior Coach, Assistant Senior Coach or an appropriate Committee member.   

As a Swimmer you are expected to:

*    Before leaving your home for the session make sure you have checked and packed all of the necessary equipment that you will require including a drink for the session and that all kit and equipment is in good order.*    Arrive in good time and be ready for the start of each coaching session.  If you think that you will be late then inform your Coach beforehand.*    Have appropriately warmed-up before the wet session starts.*    Make sure that your allocated Coach has registered your attendance at each session before you get into the pool.*    Do not enter the water until instructed to do so by your Lane Coach.*    Always read and obey the venues swimming pool rules, this includes the changing areas.*    During the session make the most of the opportunity by making eye contact with your Coach, listen to and follow the instructions given to you.*    Pay attention to your Coach and perform to the best of your ability both in training and in competition.*    Allow others to achieve their potential by not playing, talking, disrupting or acting in an inappropriate way whilst the session is in progress.*    Inform the Coach before the start of a session if you need to leave early and always ask for the Coach’s permission if you need to leave poolside during the session or competition.*    If you are not well or if you have a cold, or sore throat, sickness, ear infection, open wound etc then please inform your Coach and refrain from swimming until the cause has passed.*    Be available and punctual for team / event selection if you are asked to represent the Club.*    Report any instances of bullying to the Senior Coach, Welfare Officer, Club Chairman or Assistant Senior Coach immediately. *    Be part of the Putteridge Piranhas team, and actively support your fellow Swimmers. 

Failure to abide by these rules may invoke the use of the disciplinary policy by the coaching staff and could lead to either your temporary or permanent exclusion from the Club. 

Club Coaches, Officials and Representatives of Putteridge Piranhas Swimming Club will:

*    Check that the facilities are in good working order prior to any Swimmer taking to the water.*    Whilst in charge of your lane take responsibility for each Swimmer allocated to you from the time that the Swimmer presents them selves to be registered until which time that they leave the water.*    Encourage and assist Swimmers to reach their full potential according to their age, interest and ability.*    Aim to provide a safe, caring environment for Swimmers to train and compete in.*    Liaise with Swimmers, Parents or Guardians, and others in an appropriate and professional manner.*    To ensure that any concerns regarding the Swimmer are fully discussed with the appropriate people in confidence.*    To keep Swimmers, Parents or Guardians informed of all Club activities / events / notifications by appropriate use of the Club notice board, web site and other communication methods.*    Consider the well-being and safety of participants before the development of performance.*    Develop an appropriate working relationship with Club members and Parents / Guardians, based on mutual trust and respect.*    Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part.*    Promote the positive aspects of the sport. (e.g. fair play)*    Follow all guidelines laid down by the National Governing Body and the Club.*    Hold the appropriate, valid qualifications and constantly strive to improve your knowledge and expertise.*    Never exert undue influence over Swimmers to obtain personal benefit or reward.*    Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of prohibitive substances.*    Report any instances of bullying to the Senior Coach, Welfare Officer, Club Chairman or Assistant Senior Coach immediately. *    Arrive for your coaching sessions on time and fully prepared, dressed in an appropriate manner that reflects your position as a member of the Coaching team and conduct yourself accordingly.*    If you are unavailable for any of your coaching sessions it is your responsibility to organise adequate cover and inform the Senior Coach, Assistant Senior Coach or Chairperson in a timely manner when ever possible. 

Parents, Guardians and Carers of Swimmers, you have an equal role to:

*    Make sure that your Swimmer has read and understands the code of conduct and explain why it is in place.*    Assist the Swimmer to have checked and packed all the necessary equipment required for the session & that it is in good order.*    Assist the Swimmer to arrive in good time and to be ready for the start of each coaching session.  *    To inform the Coach if you think that the Swimmer will not be on time. *    Refrain from going poolside unless requested by the Coaching staff.*    Whenever possible stay at the Leisure Centre during your Swimmer’s sessions (particularly for younger Swimmers).*    Be responsible for Swimmers dropped off early or picked up late for swimming sessions as the Club cannot accept responsibility for Swimmers left in this way.*    Not shout out to or distract their Children during training sessions.*    If a Parent wishes to talk with a Coach they should talk to the Coach before the session starts or after the session has finished and converse in a calm and respectful manner.*    Encourage your Child to learn the rules and play within them, to recognise good performance and not just results.*    Set a good example by recognising fair play, accepting Official’s decisions and applauding the good performances of all.*    Support your Child’s involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.*    Never force your Child to take part or punish, belittle a Child for losing or making mistakes.*    Inform a Coach or the Club’s Welfare Officer immediately of any issues or condition that may affect your Child’s welfare or behaviour whilst in training or at competition.*    Inform the Coach if your Child has a cold, or sore throat, sickness, ear infection, open wound etc and to protect others and withdraw your child from swimming until the cause has passed.*    If your Child is asked to represent Putteridge Piranhas Swimming Club then give good notice to their Team Manager if your Child is not able to attend.*    Encourage your Child to behave in a manner that reflects favourably upon Putteridge Piranhas Swimming Club, the sport of swimming and themselves.*    Refrain from entering the changing areas, remember it is not just your Child in there.*    Support Putteridge Piranhas Swimming Club’s policies & guidelines.*    Ensure your Child adheres to the Club disciplinary policy.*    Agree to your Child abiding by the Club’s discipline policy, including the enforcement of any necessary sanctions.  

Please print and sign two copies. Return one signed form only keeping the Code of conduct along with the second signed form for your own reference.
